The CHR Concept

The Key to Unlocking Hydrogen Applications

For more than 50 years, the Savannah River National Laboratory - one of only 12 U.S. Department of Energy designated laboratories in the country - has been leading the way in the production, storage, and handling of hydrogen isotopes.  Research efforts conducted at the national lab have led to such advancements as the use of metal hydrides in the safe, stable and solid-state storage of hydrogen and hydrogen isotopes as well as the development of numerous patents for innovative techniques such as the separation of hydrogen from other gases.

CHR was created to accelerate the development of hydrogen as a viable alternative energy source by bringing together scientists from the national lab with researchers from universities, research institutes and the private sector.

These and other advancements for producing, separating and storing hydrogen safely and efficiently are leading the way in the scientific pursuit of a clean and sustainable source of energy.
